On Listening
Listening should be our default state. It’s easy to jump into a conversation and want to just talk. But talking doesn’t provide us with a lot of value. Listening provides a couple distinct advantages:
- It helps people like you – People like to be heard. If you are a good listener, people will naturally like you.
- You say fewer stupid things – It’s hard to put your foot in your mouth when your mouth is closed.
- You learn more – Nearly everyone has something they can teach you. From the bum on the street to the Mayor of your city, there’s something you can learn from almost everyone.
Today, try and listen just a little more. Just 10% more. I think you’ll like the results.
